The Long Game

Do you get distracted by whatever’s directly in front of you? I do. My view, most of the time, is so temporal and immediate. I really have to fight to stick to the long game.

In 1 Corinthians 3, Paul is having to correct some folks who’ve taken a hard left turn. They’ve begun to hold the messengers in higher esteem than the “message”. The people are all but handing out baseball cards with their favorite preacher’s mug on them. I admire Paul so much for his consistency in especially one area. He continually directs people back to Jesus.

It’s easy to point fingers at the churches in hindsight but we still face the same types of issues. I’ve even heard of folks ranking their favorite worship leaders like it’s some sort of reality show. It just goes to show how our carnality exists just under the surface and how what’s directly in front of us can divert us from the truth. It’s only when we fix our eyes on Jesus that we’re able to walk a straight line and keep on the path to life and life more abundant.
