Unusual Kindness

Have you ever experienced kindness? The type that tends to take you by surprise because it seemingly came from nowhere? I’ve never had anything change me as much. It’s propelled me to want to be a better man. And the interesting thing is it doesn’t necessarily mean hard things can’t be said. I’ve had some pretty tough messages delivered with kindness. It’s more in the manner in which it’s done. There seems to be an overarching concern for another person’s well-being.

I believe the residue of God’s character is kindness. The Bible says it’s God’s kindness that leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4). It’s the sense that he cares enough to extend His hand of mercy to us no matter how undeserving.

When Paul arrived in Malta in Acts 28 he mentioned the natives showed “unusual kindness”. I’m almost certain these folks didn’t know Jesus but had enough of His imprint to make it happen. Kindness on it’s own merit has tremendous power. But when it’s backed but the grace and mercy of a loving God, it becomes eternally significant.
